Marathon!

Aya had trained faithfully, just like she promised (and despite her period starting a few months after that promise. Really? She didn't need that!). The weights had been added by about the second month of training and she was really, really proud of her stamina!

And the marathon they'd chosen as their first was coming up this weekend, with fund raising as done by Elcy...and yeah. "Don't tell me you have to cancel!" she said into the phone, pulling one foot up to stretch out her thighs. "Don't! I can't go and do this alone!"

"We can do my room! There's nothing in there right now to bother them!" Aya grinned. "And we can play board games on the floor!" They were still building the Game of Doom after all.

"Sounds good. I'll get things set up in there." Braig said, peeling away from her as they got home, "You finish up with mom, check on the bread and stuff."

Dilan just headed for the stairs.

"Same way as last time or new?" Aya asked curiously before bopping off through the kitchen door. "We're home mom! Got 'em! Gonna keep them in my room okay? And keep an eye on them there until the boys take them!" For the info dump!

Also, checking bread, punching it down, trying to snitch a spoon of stew!

"Same." Braig said, "Dilan's more comfortable like that." Which meant a big box turned on it's side with a blanket draped over it, and plenty of smaller blankets inside. A litter box was set near it, and after Momma cat had moved all her kittens into the box she used the litter box and went back into the cave.

Same was good! Aya came bopping up the stairs with the beef scraps for Dilan to snack on and some carrots for her and Braig. And another can of Cat's food! "Elcy's says another hour for bread and stew."

"Okay!" Dilan said, opening his mouth for the scraps. Braig dished up more food for the momma cat.

"Cat's going to be very confused when we get home." Braig mused.

[mitochondriaaya]

"Hey, you have fingers!" Aya snorted and dropped a single scrap in Dilan's mouth before pushing the bowl at him. "And you do too before you even ask!" Aya poked a carrot at Braig and then sat down at her spot of the board.

"And yeah, but she's a good cat and she knows no one will ever replace her! And she might like seeing kittens!"

Braig just grinned, "I never said I didn't." he pointed out as he chewed on his snack. Dilan laughed and dug out bits to eat himself.

Momma peeked out of the box and then went to eat again. She was really, really hungry.

"Yeah, but sometimes you both imitate baby birds," Aya pointed out. "Had to nip it in the bud!" Not that she didn't do the exact same thing. Oh no. Not her.

She held a finger out for Momma sniff while she was being curious, then fiddled with the box of gameboards. "I was thinking...does anyone know what Parcheesi is or should we just use the peg board differently?"

"Pot, kettle." Dilan snorted, "Uh. I do, but it's boring."

"Ditto." Braig admitted.

[mitochondriaaya]

"Pot, kettle, tire iron." Aya pointed at each of them in turn, ending on herself. "Huh, okay, so, can it be redeemed at all with crazy or is the final vote on the pegboard setting it aside?" This was how the game started, currently, one or all of them pulling a new board from the mixed box they'd gotten and voting on it.

"We could use it to keep track of hell points." Dilan said, "You know, so that we know when we've banked enough to skip M-hell."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Oh, good call!" Aya pulled out three pegs and set them at one end of the board. "Any other boards up for discussion?" Yes, don't mind her as she busied herself with markers to make the white pegs different colors!

"Snakes and Ladders," Dilan said, "And, uh...Life."

Braig grabbed pillows off of the bed and lounged on them.

[mitochondriaaya]

"Snakes and ladders has a lot of empty squares to write new things on, so yes!" Aya offered for that ones. "And...I don't know about Life? How does it translate?"

"Well," Braig said, "we can move from the main board to Life to pick up more cards and tokens."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Huh." Aya pulled out the board in question and unfolded it so they could look it over. "There are a lot of spaces empty here too, we could use those. "What kind of tokens? You have to get a car and family, that's how Life works, but beyond that?"

"Take a sharpie and scribble token amounts on some of the tiles." Braig said, "That'll be where we pick up Hell points."

[mitochondriaaya]

"And otherwise play as normal or should we stick ejection and card draw spots on the board as well?" C'mon, she had pens to pass over if they wanted to write on things too!

"Draw and ejection spots." Braig said, nodding. "Just one of the ejection spots, though. If you miss it, all the way."

Obviously he needed a pen! "You pick that one then! Dilan? I'll fill in the board, or most of it, leaving some blank, if you write up some Life related cards?"

Dilan nodded and started writing down cards...he liked doing that rather than letting Braig, because his handwriting was beautiful and Braig's looked like chicken scratch.

This was why the labor was divided in this manner! "You know, when we finish this...game giant thing we'll have to redo the cards so they're all the same size and stuff." And hammer out the rules.

"Yeah." Dilan agreed, frowning, "We can...you or Braig can use an art program to do that. I can get card stock."

[mitochondriaaya]

"That'd be fun," Aya admitted. "We should put the game name on the backs!" When they figured that out! "No one mixes up our cards in other games by accident!"
