Graduation and beyond

Graduation was just before her birthday, so Aya was fifteen when she slithered into the graduation gown and tried her hat on. Walking with a tassel (as practice proved) was distracting. She wasn't katzu, true, but she still had the urge to bat at it. Instead she had to look calm. Sedate. Grown up.

Yeeeeah.

At least she wasn't Valedictorian, that would have added a whole new level of stress to her last year of school! And still she'd almost been swayed by the teacher who suggested she stay another year. Almost. Life didn't wait though and the boys were already so far ahead of her that it was a laughable idea to 'catch up' but hey, at least they could all be in college for some of the same years! Sure, not the same college but...yeah. She went out with her friends the night before graduation, a low key party out on a floating dock with a lot of silliness and loud music, but hey, they were all seniors, it was expected!

She made it home in the morning in time to toss back a mug of coffee and try to think about breakfast. "Have to be at the field at...four? Four thirty. Right. Yeah." More coffee. The message light on the answering machine was flashing so she hit the button and listened as her dad rambled cheerfully about it being the day, and he had his ticket to the graduation, and he wasn't going to lose it and what else did he need to remember? "Your head," she chuckled, listening. He'd been leaving messages all week as the day rolled closer. It was nice for Jerrig to be excited.

Granted, traffic was going to be hell with the town turning out to see graduation at the nearest sports field and tourists flooding in to see the surfing competition in the town nearby, but as long as everyone left early they'd be fine right? Right. It wasn't like she had to drive.

Maaaaaaaybe staying out all night hadn't been the best plan though. The coffee waqs sitting heavy in her stomach and she felt her hands tensing around the mug as REAL LIFE loomed up in her mind.

Ouch.

Yeah.

"What was I thinking?!" It was totally okay to ask these things of the empty kitchen, yep.

"Ack! I knew we were gonna have time! Stoppit! Ack!" Dilan flailed while Braig tickled him. It was like poking!

"You still hid it from us," Aya sniffed mock-sadly. "Mind the corners on the table! They hurt when you hit them!"

"I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry!" Braig finally let up and Dilan huffed.

Aya turned from the stove to give Dilan a smile and a forkful of mushrooms as an apology. "I believe you're sorry!" Really, she did! "And it'll be fun after breakfast." Her mushrooms were done, time for potato pancakes in that pan and another regular one in the other pan!

Dilan huffed at them, and turned his attention to meat. Mmm. Food.

Braig was chowing down on his own breakfast.

He could huff all he liked, it just meant he'd have to ambush them both later with tickling now didn't it? It wasn't too much longer before Aya was seated as well, plowing into breakfast like a starving thing. Mmmm, food.

Silence for the important task of feeding themselves. Yes.

Once the plates were rinsed Dilan said, "Lemme grab the album."

"Alright, more coffee? I'm topping off then rinsing the pot!" Topping off hers and Braig's as a matter of course, but she had a strict 'no more coffee after washing the pot' policy for herself, it kept her slightly healthy?

"Coffee!" Dilan agreed, "Thank you."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Coffee it is!" Aya topped his mug as well then rinsed the pot out properly. "You know, I didn't used to see the appeal in coffee. It was a sad time in my life." Time to go out and take over the couch? Yep!

"Yet you wanted it anyway since we were drinking it." Braig pointed out, also flopping on the couch.

[mitochondriaaya]

"Well, yeah, but that didn't mean it tasted good!" Aya chuckled. "Guess it had to grow on me. I claim your lap, it is mine!" So said the legs flopped over his!

Dilan said, "You could both sit on my lap and it'll be easiest to see!"

[mitochondriaaya]

"But then I won't be taking the whole couch!" Aya mock-whined. Still, it did make sense. "Fine, your lap is mine too!"

Dilan snorted at her and pulled out the album so that they could go through it.

"Starts before mom and dad met...with mom."

[mitochondriaaya]

Aya settled comfortably in his lap and leaned her head on his shoulder, "Hey, that's her coming out gown!" she grinned and traced a finger over the pink lines. "I recognize it from her stories."

"Yeah," Braig said, "she's still got it in the attic at the big house."

"We should try to find it next time we're out there."

[mitochondriaaya]

"What would we do with it if we found it?" Aya asked curiously. "Do you think she'd wear it again?"

[sliceitwithwind]

"No." Braig laughed, "She's too big for it now, she hadn't finished growing at that point. It'd just be nice to see."

"You might fit it, Aya."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Elcy was always taller than me!" Aya laughed. "And pink? I look washed out in pink! But if you guys want me to try it I will as long as you guys are dressing up too." The attics had plenty of opportunity for dress up?

"We'll see." Braig said, laughing a bit. He'd dress up for Aya's amusement.

[mitochondriaaya]

"Yep, no use planning until we actually find it!" Aya grinned and turned a page, "And there's Lenna!"

[sliceitwithwind]

"Yeah." Dilan smiled at the picture of his mother. Her dress wasn't as expensive, nor did it fit as well, but she was so happy to be there that it didn't matter.

[mitochondriaaya]

"Annnd...they both had boyfriends!" Aya laughed, pointing at the two men who seemed quite happy to have the pretty women on their arms. "The ladies were players! Look!" So many pictures of various guys! "You got it honestly from both sides Braig!"

"Guess I did!" Braig said, laughing.

"Me too!" Dilan agreed, "Knowing Katzu and seeing momma like that..."
