Graduation and beyond

Graduation was just before her birthday, so Aya was fifteen when she slithered into the graduation gown and tried her hat on. Walking with a tassel (as practice proved) was distracting. She wasn't katzu, true, but she still had the urge to bat at it. Instead she had to look calm. Sedate. Grown up.

Yeeeeah.

At least she wasn't Valedictorian, that would have added a whole new level of stress to her last year of school! And still she'd almost been swayed by the teacher who suggested she stay another year. Almost. Life didn't wait though and the boys were already so far ahead of her that it was a laughable idea to 'catch up' but hey, at least they could all be in college for some of the same years! Sure, not the same college but...yeah. She went out with her friends the night before graduation, a low key party out on a floating dock with a lot of silliness and loud music, but hey, they were all seniors, it was expected!

She made it home in the morning in time to toss back a mug of coffee and try to think about breakfast. "Have to be at the field at...four? Four thirty. Right. Yeah." More coffee. The message light on the answering machine was flashing so she hit the button and listened as her dad rambled cheerfully about it being the day, and he had his ticket to the graduation, and he wasn't going to lose it and what else did he need to remember? "Your head," she chuckled, listening. He'd been leaving messages all week as the day rolled closer. It was nice for Jerrig to be excited.

Granted, traffic was going to be hell with the town turning out to see graduation at the nearest sports field and tourists flooding in to see the surfing competition in the town nearby, but as long as everyone left early they'd be fine right? Right. It wasn't like she had to drive.

Maaaaaaaybe staying out all night hadn't been the best plan though. The coffee waqs sitting heavy in her stomach and she felt her hands tensing around the mug as REAL LIFE loomed up in her mind.

Ouch.

Yeah.

"What was I thinking?!" It was totally okay to ask these things of the empty kitchen, yep.

Braig snorted and clung to the couch, "Hey! I'm not involved in this!"

Dilan grinned and gave up after one last tickle.

Which left Aya hugging Braig's leg and mostly upside down off the couch. Well. No one said she had to have dignity. "You're here so of course you're involved!"

"Not in this fight!" Braig said, reaching down to poke her nose gently. "Dork."

"We're all dorks." Dilan agreed, happily.

"And I'm...kinda stuck. Hand up?" She could do a sit up, sure, but not really with Braig's leg still attached!

"I should just leave you there." Dilan said, but he reached down to help her anyway.

[mitochondriaaya]

"Yeah, maybe," Aya agreed once she was back up on the couch properly. "But you never do. I think you're a sucker for the upside down lip wibble."

"Probably." Braig agreed, punching Dilan gently.

"Yeahhhh."

[mitochondriaaya]

"I'm sorry. I'll try not to use this weakness against you in the future!" Maybe.

"Liar." both boys said, ruffling her hair in tandom.

[mitochondriaaya]

"Well, yes, but I'm bad enough at it that you always know when I do it!" She grinned and snapped at fingers.

"This is true." Braig agreed, "You're a terrible liar."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Eh, well, I lead an honest life." She did! "And when would I really need to lie anyway?"

"No clue." Braig admitted. He didn't ask her to cover for him because of how bad a liar she was, after all.

"You're going to be an awesome cop." Dilan said, "But don't try to work under cover."

[mitochondriaaya]

"I'm going to work here in town, so why would I need to go under cover?" she grinned. "Well, after training and a few years out of town for experience. Still, everyone here know me so I couldn't go under cover anyway." and she covered for Braig by being open and cheerful and apologetic!

"I don't know!" Dilan said, "I'm just saying it'd be a bad idea!"

"If I really wanted to I could learn how to lie well!" She could! "Think it'd come in handy in college?"

[sliceitwithwind]

"Not for you, monkey." Braig said, "You're not going to need it...your honesty is one of the best things about you."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Yeah, well, you are the college guys, I had to ask. I've been polling everybody on what I'll need for college. A nice blanket is leading," Aya laughed.

[sliceitwithwind]

"Lots of nice blankets." Braig said, poking her nose, "We know you."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Well, yeah, keeps me from rolling out of bed too often," she admitted sheepishly. "Do you think there's a limit? I haven't seen dorm rooms."

[sliceitwithwind]

"Got to keep it on your side of the room." Dilan said, "Other than that, no."

[mitochondriaaya]

"I could build a whole nest then!" Hah! "I'll have Two Guys deliver a lot of boxes then, mostly blankets!"

Braig laughed, "Or you could have your two guys do it."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Awww, but you guys are set! Two Guys movers here in town is actually trying to raise money for college!" Aya grinned and poked the boys.

"Besides, you'll be helping with the unpacking everything so why not let them tote?"

"Fine, fine." Braig couldn't argue with her, really. Dilan grinned, "Man. Demoted to unpacking."
