She wasn't surprised when the machine picked up. She'd been in college three years, which meant the boys had doctorates under their belts, a president on their speed dial and so many other things besides and yet...


...she'd kinda hoped. "Hey," she noted when the machine clicked over. "Me. I know you guys are busy and I know I garduate in a week but...preliminary physicals for the police training is before that. I'm going to cut my hair. want to hang out?"

Before she got to want to there were fumbling noises, "Hi, Aya, yes, hi." Dilan said, thudding to the ground, "Hey. How about day after tomorrow? We can move things around."

"Hey! Yikes! Did you tackle the phone?!" she yelped before anything else. "Are you okay? You know it's okay to call me back a few minutes after a call and all..."

"Maybe." Dilan said with his smug kitty voice, "But I don't like missing you."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Who did you have to jump over to get the phone?" she was chuckling as she asked though. "And what are we shuffling around? If you guys have important stuff I'll just take pictures with the new haircut okay?"

"Nobody." Dilan said, grinning, "I was in the laundry room. Just a couple of study sessions."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Isn't the point of having a doctorate not having to study so much anymore?" she teased. "Didn't you have work type things to do now? The labs ate you both for what, three months a little while ago?" She was shuffling things on her end, probably packing since she'd be living at the training grounds after graduation.

After getting in.

"You say that like we're only going to get one each." Dilan said mildly, "We work twenty hours a week and take classes for fifteen."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Yeah yeah yeah. I know I'm the slacker," she grinned at the phone. "Have you guys decided how many you're going to get? And yeah, day after next works. It's going to be weird to have short hair again."

[sliceitwithwind]

"Nope." Dilan said cheerfully, "Not yet. Four maybe?"

[mitochondriaaya]

"...you're both crazy you know! There are countries with fewer letters in them than what you'll have after your names! Hmmm, dinner here? I have stuff to make lasagna for us..."

[sliceitwithwind]

"But it's fun." Dilan said, laughing, "Sure, just make sure that it's heavy on the meat and cheese and low on the sauce. Do you want me to fry up some squash and bring it with?"

[mitochondriaaya]

"I actually made a pesto earlier this week, I was figuring on that instead of a tomato sauce..." she noted, as she peered into her fridge. "And yes, please! Or fry it here, either way works! Your ideas of fun are crazy. I love you anyway."

"Pesto? Sounds good to me!" Dilan agreed, brightly, "...Yeah, frying it there is a good idea. That way it'll be warm."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Yeah, there was basil at the farmer's market this week!" A lot of basil and college kids who had no idea what to do with it. She got a lot cheap. "What time can I expect you guys? I still have to wipe out an exam this week but otherwise I'm done!"

"Eleven?" Dilan offered, "We can spend most of the day together?"

[mitochondriaaya]

"I can get in early, there's a 8 a.m. exam option, so that should work!" She could knock out an exam in two hours...right? Maybe. "And yeah, that'll be good. I'm going to get real busy soon and I won't be allowed off the training grounds...and you guys are getting busy too." Sue her if she sounded a little wistful. She liked hanging out with them even though they were all growing up.

"Don't rush your test." Dilan ordered, "We are perfectly capable of waiting, and I can even make Braig help with things."

[mitochondriaaya]

She held the phone away from her ear a moment and stared at it before giggling and cradling it again. "I swear you're psychic Dilan. I won't rush. It should be mostly essays anyway and everyone taking it knows they're graduating anyway so..."

"I just know my monkey." Dilan said with a grin in his voice, "Do your best, okay?"

[mitochondriaaya]

"Of course!" she snorted. "You guys would do horrible things if I every shirked a test, and that's after my own conscience beat me up! And then Elcy would get her hands on me!"

"Yup." Dilan agreed, brightly, "Hey, want me to bring Cat along? She misses you. I can tell because she keeps laying on the jingle-ball you brought last time."

"...I've been busy!" She was sorry! Cat made her feel guilty without even trying. "Yes! I will cuddle her until she's done with me!"

[sliceitwithwind]

"I know!" Dilan said, "We'll bring her, then. It'll be good for both of you."

[mitochondriaaya]

"You really spoil me. I'll get the lasagna put together and ready to bake tonight because I'll end up a kitty puddle then..."

"That's my job." Dilan said cheerfully, "Kitty puddles are awesome."
