RE AU take 1
Feb. 8th, 2010 04:56 pmAya narrowed her eyes as the new guy came in. Beside her, sitting backward in a chair with his arms crossed on the back, Pierce whistled "Whoa, he's...nothing like I remember. He bulked up right? Or did I just not decode those video files of Racoon properly?"
She rolled her eyes and elbowed her friend as the boss started the welcome spiel "He's lived hard, it's why he got in. You can barely recognize me from my old NYPD photos right?"
"Point." The computer genius admitted with a grin "Think he'll really hold up? It's a hell of a chance taking in new people to the unit."
"Marcus died, Pierce. We're going to be spread too thin if we don't bring in new blood. Besides, Hunnigan needs a partner. Unpaired operators get mopey." Aya pointed out with a glance at the woman who was talking to Leon now.
"Oh, right...mopey. I never get mopey." he teased, spinning hsi chair gently back and forth.
"You've never lost your partner." Aya countered, straightening from her slouch on the wall. It was time she went over to say hi to the guy she recommended right?

Date: 2010-02-09 03:24 am (UTC)It started before he’d even entered the building. Leon’s hands tightened on the steering wheel of his ’83 Cadillac for the second time as he smothered his sardonic amusement, trying not to look too deeply into his apt assessment of the situation. He could call them sloppy, manipulative, and self serving all he wanted, but it didn’t change anything. Most of these so called agents didn't have a clue what had had happened to all those people, or what could happen to them if the T-virus was ever released again. It occurred to him that they might be getting confident and sloppy, but apparently it was because they could afford to be.
Sighing despondently he reminded himself that this was yet another stepping stone, even if it was one he’d have to use for quite some time. He did this for Sherry, Claire, for everyone who’d been in that city the night it. He would put a stop to all this bio-weaponry madness, scrub the virus from the face of the earth. If he had to deal with the devil to use this association to achieve those means then that just had to be done.
So there he sat in the driver's seat for a good ten moments, even after he'd pulled to the curb, looking almost blankly at the shuttered windows and small accumulation of rubbish on the front stoop. In a way, it was almost a relief to get out of the car and into the air-conditioned offices. In here at least, his thoughts could be more useful, he could accomplish something, even if it meant biding his time.
“Ah Leon… Leon Kennedy I presume?”
Thrown from his train of thought, Leon found himself face to face with what he assumed to be him soon-to-be boss. The other mans actions proved him right. His nod was curt and the introduction brief; to the point. He was never one for lengthy introductions anyway, so it was just fine none the less. The fact he now had female company, was a-o-k with him. That was, until he caught another feminine figure in the corner of his eye. Ingrid Hunnigan was an intriguing character all her own, but the other, smaller, figure seemed just as intriguing. Mysterious even. Did he know her? He was sure he did…. Somewhere… Somehow.
Either way she was edging closer, and somehow after Ingrid finished her sentence about what she wanted him to call her and how politically correct things had become, Leon had a feeling he’d be introduced to both girls. Hopefully this was a good thing.

Date: 2010-02-09 03:41 am (UTC)Aya wasn't going to let a little thing like biting keep her from meeting a new field operative. Her life might depend on him someday...and she'd recommended him after all. "Leon Kennedy." she greeted, stepping in past the 'regulation distance' Hunnigan had established. "Good to see you in more than passing. I'm Aya Brea, and whatever you're thinking, this outfit isn't as bad. Trust me."
no subject
Date: 2010-02-10 02:42 am (UTC)Leon didn’t know about this pre-established regulatory distance, but he certainly guessed that Hunnigan wasn’t happy that Ms Brea had joined in the conversation.
Behind the glasses, her eyes darkened, sharpened to an aggressive stare. If her smile and posture weren’t so carefree he would said that glare was out too kill. Probably just some simple rivalry. No point trying to understand just yet.
“Good to know Miss Brea. Can’t wait ‘til casual Friday.” He smiled, glad to have a word in before Hunnigan. When it came to defusing a situation he at least knew a thing or two about what not to say.
Not that he was completely sure who this Aya was. He was usually good with faces and even voices when he had to be. Her’s however, couldn’t be placed with the name until she’d told him. Another thing there was no point trying to understand. He’d just ask when he got a moment alone with the blond.
“Hunnigan here was just showing me the ropes.”
no subject
Date: 2010-02-10 02:50 am (UTC)"Why wait for Friday? Despite what some people might tell you, there is no way to enforce a dress code here." she laughed softly. She herself was in loose jeans and t-shirt under jacket that matched the pants. It gave plenty of room for her 'casual' sidearm?
"I'll leave you to your operator and her run down of your locker numbers and codes and all that. I just wanted to say Hi to the newest field agent. I'm sure we'll run into each other at the ranges or gym." she offered her hand to shake, perfectly willing to head off again in a moment.
no subject
Date: 2010-02-10 10:27 am (UTC)Though her face wouldn’t show it Ingrid’s buttons had been pushed. This was wrong. No, no, no she couldn’t let that self assured blond cow win. It wasn’t her place to have EVERY guy in the office talk about her. And most did in some form, whether at work or during social events. This was her partner, not anyone else's. Couldn’t they understand that? She was the one who’d lost a partner, a partner who knew jobs and social lives should be kept separative. He wasn’t a big fan of her either. She had to make sure the new guy wouldn’t fall into that trap.
“Nice meeting you Aya.” He added. "And sure... See you around.”
About to turn her head and address him directly, Leon anticipated the general reaction, suddenly clearing his throat. It hadn’t been over the top after all.
“So... Ms Hunnigan. Care to give me a tour?”
no subject
Date: 2010-02-10 10:41 am (UTC)"Awww, no blood? Come on, I was thinking if anything could get her to crack that business demeanor..." Pierce grinned up at Aya and twirled his chair. "What now?"
"You're a bad man Pierce, just so you know. Come on, gym, we'll let the main floor look after itself for awhile." Aya peeled out of her jacket and tossed it at her partner before heading out through the back hallway.
Pierce caught the flying fabric and draped it over his seat after he stood, then cracked his neck "Oh goodie, I get to try to kill my partner. HEY, IF ANYONE HEARS EXPLOSIONS, DON'T WORRY!" he called out as he headed after Aya. "UNLESS THERE'S SCREAMING. THEN COME SAVE MY ASS PEOPLE!" The room in general laughed and catcalled as the pair fully exited.
no subject
Date: 2010-02-10 06:02 pm (UTC)Resigning himself to the usual newbie ritual he let himself be pulled along by Ingrid, because, well, the tour was for his benefit after all. She wasn’t that bad a tour guide either, as far as her ability to explain the purpose of the different areas and the information he personally had to remember. He did however have reservations about her expectations. How was he to recall every single superior office on a moments notice? Couldn’t he spend some time in each room for a little time before they moved on to the next? Couldn’t he just buy a map? Maps always came in handy. It took him a while but even his patience started to wear thin.
“Anything here besides offices and cubicles Hunnigan? Care to show me something a little more… my style?”
Trying to mask the lapse in concentration he used his humor to get his point across . Although it was a part of his job, it certainly wasn’t the most interesting or important. Hopefully she would take the hint. He wanted to see action. Training in motion. The other people he’d be working with and possibly even be forced to depend on to keep his backside alive.
“Sure.” Was the accommodating reply he received. “Right after we visit the last place on our list. Then we can find a place that’s a little more ‘your style’.”
While the place wasn’t noteworthy, they didn't stop, just paused for a quick second or two before moving on, forcing Leon to contend himself with taking the rest of his tour on the lower levels. It certainly was a little more enlightening than the first part.
Sure no one would touch him or let him near any potentially dangerous rooms without the proper paperwork, but at least he got to watch something more proactive, something less daunting. It made for thinking easier that way. That was… until an dull thud of an explosion from an adjacent room, rocked him out of his reverie.
“And that was… the laboratory?”
“Wrong.” Hunnigan immediately answered, slapping an aggravated palm to her forehead. “That’s probably just Pierce testing out the new gym equipment.”
no subject
Date: 2010-02-10 10:53 pm (UTC)The gym today was set up as the outdoor section of a secure facility. Blast doors led out to another section of the gym, but Aya was in this section at the moment, and there were explosions. She skirted what blasts she could, but a surprise landmine had her hurled against the observation glass. There was a sickening crack sound, part of it her shoulder, but most of it the wonderful tempered glass spider webbing from the impact. She slumped against the glass for a moment, getting her bearings, then shook her shoulder and arm to get feeling back in her fingers.
Then it was back into the fray, dashing away from the window and moving faster this time. The mines didn't catch her off guard this time. She off and through the doors, the great metal things sealing behind her.
There was a screen above the door which flickered to life. It simply read: Aya 4 Pierce 3.
Aya hadn't even noticed any observers, and as the door sealed behind her she grimaced. The head on approach wasn't her style, she preferred sneaking in, but the trickier courses were being repaired at the moment. So...the blunt training method. Like dealing with combat dummies now. "If you gave them live ammo again we're going to have to fill out paperwork you know!!" she screamed out, knowing Pierce would hear her through the microphones in the area.
"Paperwork keeps us out of trouble Aya!" was the cheerful, unrepentant reply.

Date: 2010-02-13 08:38 am (UTC)“That’s got to hurt.”
Leon’s brow remained arched as he readily deduced that while the two may have been practicing something, it wasn't the exercises he imagined the higher ups would have assigned.
The smartly dressed brunette that was accompanying him of course agreed, sighing dejectedly as if detesting the unfairness of it all. There was no point arguing. Aya had everyone wrapped around her finger in some way. Even higher sources seemed interested in just how much punishment her body could take. But if the blond wanted to play dice with her own life, she wasn’t about to burst the other woman’s bubble.
“It isn’t exactly really protocol, but Aya’s a big girl and Pierce is crazy enough to want to put her through that kind of cruel and unusual punishment. They seem to be the only two agents who think they can beat the odds.”
Leon thought a minute. A training room that could potentially kill its occupants? Seemed… unlikely. But then, he’d been in pretty tough situations and maybe the agency only wanted to keep it’s agents prepaired for anything. He’d have to read the protocols first before making up his mind. First things first.
He smiled. “So where do we get to see the action up close and personal?”

Date: 2010-02-13 08:49 am (UTC)"Beers tonight say Aya didn't get the info before we blow the hatch!" one called out, laughing.
"Call it in to Pierce on the radio. He'll keep an eye on her, see if she really has it in hand before we're in!" the leader called out, unrecognizable in his full helmet. "Heyyy, Hunnigan, move that ass girl. Hustle hustle hustle you're going to cost us rounds tonight!"

Date: 2010-03-12 10:44 am (UTC)“What do you think? Shall we? “ Leon suddenly interjected having watched all of this with a raised eyebrow before replying with a somewhat terse and mostly befuddled reply.
“I’d like to go.”
‘Did he really?’ he asked himself? Certainly was interesting place to be working in.
“Come on then.” Ingrid sighed, trying to stop her hands from raising in defeat as she began to follow the several agents, only doing so at her own pace.
Behind her, following in anticipation, Leon folded his arms tightly against his chest, but casually, appearing cool and yet (by no small mistake) showing off the muscles of his arm. Appearances always counted.
no subject
Date: 2010-03-12 10:55 am (UTC)The op room door cut out the cheerful tactical chatter, and Pierce glanced up from his console. Incongruously, and utterly against protocol, he had a gaming controller wired into the complex machinery in the small room. "Ohhh, tourists!" he greeted. "Come to see round two? Pull up a patch of wall, I'm all out of wheeling chairs."
The glass in here looked out over three different sections. The one that Aya had just left, a lab foyer that she was in now, and a full lab proper in the next. The enemies of the moment were robot training dummies, armed with live fire apparently. And controlled by Pierce. The blast doors to the next section, the goal, were slowly sliding closed...
...and Pierce had the Jeopardy countdown theme playing over the loudspeakers just to annoy his partner.
"Oh, what?!! No, no, no oh man, you are NOT suppose to get that close to them Aya! No fair, they don't bend that way! CHEATER!" Pierce grumped as Aya trashed a few robots with small arms fire and ducked into the next area.
"So...Leon, Hunnigan, how's the tour? We kinda figured it'd take a while longer to make your way down here." Pierce sighed as automated systems started in on his partner.
no subject
Date: 2010-04-07 07:04 am (UTC)“It was fine thank you! Just fine.”
Well fine till Leon got distracted by the bells and whistles of training. What, was she the only level headed person in the room? She wasn't surprised. She knew why they were here. The rest of the room didn't have a clue, and they weren't the types of people who appreciated regulations for what they were. There was already too many alpha personalities in one room, without Leon becoming one of them.”
“Leon, I might go catch up on some paper work. When you’re done, you know where to find me.”
“Okay. Thanks. For everything.”
And so here he was, left with ‘the guys’ watching a petite but talented blonde venture through a futuristic looking course in what was apparently a marvel of technology that left anything seen outside of Star Trek in the dust
“Nice setup you got here.”
no subject
Date: 2010-04-07 07:25 am (UTC)Once the woman had huffed out of the room he relaxed more "Well, that was Hunnigan. You'll get used to her. She's good at her job, just...well, protocol mindset. And kinda hissy." He fairly beamed, like a proud father, when Leon complimented the gym setup. "Oh, this? This is nothing. The smash and grab gym, full of obvious shit. The jungle is a lot more fun...and the ones we kind of modeled from stolen blueprints...anyway, the geek guys love building upgrades." Not that Pierce wasn't one of the geeks but, well, he was also a handler.
"If you ever want a real workout instead of the standard gym Hunnigan runs, just find me when there's spare time alright?" He glanced back 'outside' and sighed. "One minute left and I can't tell if she's got the target through the smoke. Damn it."
no subject
Date: 2010-04-11 11:04 am (UTC)"Sure..." he paused, and scratched at his chin. He didn't know much about the politics of exercising or training with another agent, so he appointed himself a little time to think. He wasn't usually too particular with training and exercises, but this would definitely offer more opportunities to keep himself in top shape. To hell with it.
“Just give a few week or two. Much appreciated.”
His attentions then turned to the room shrouded in artificial fog. It had to be hard down there, almost impossible to circumnavigate.
“You think she’ll make it out?”
no subject
Date: 2010-04-11 11:12 am (UTC)"Sure, settle in, get to know the place. Then we'll start you on the baby runs. The stuff the strike team gets for new recruits!" To weed out those who couldn't hack it, but Leon didn't need to know that part!
Pierce swung his chair back to the glass, a small smile on her face "Sure. Question is if she'll make it out in the time limit. Thirty seconds and HOLY SHIT!" That was in reaction to the shape that hurdled out of the mist and slapped a hand against the glass, a data disk prominently displayed in that hand saying 'Pierce's Party Mix'. The hand was followed by a grinning face as Aya stuck her tongue out at the mirrored glass then dashed away.
"Aaaaaaand....she likes doing that." Pierce grumbled. "Well, at least I have one free round from the strike team guys...I don't really need two."
no subject
Date: 2010-04-19 02:21 pm (UTC)Aya was apparently crossing the room using a seemingly flawless technique, hitting flying boulders, jumping tall buildings in single bounds; generally braving the storm as the unmovable objects were thrown out of the way. He knew he’d have lost a lot of time, but what else could be there to class him as the ‘baby’. He couldn't see, the dust was getting too heavy, and --
The young blond agents hand sliced through the air, leaving Leon awestruck as he followed her barely visible form. Then, surely enough, she proved she could kick ass with the best of them. If that tongue was proof, she knew it too.
“Impressive… So about this ‘training’.”
He knew what they’d have talked about. He felt a little annoyed at himself for taking this place for granted, even if Hunnigan most likely had her own opinions. He secretly admitted he'd enjoyed what he saw, promising to rely on his common sense to make sure he could balance it all. Hunnigan. Training. Keeping Peace.
"How come I get called out on baby duty?" That was the next question on his mind but he asked it carefully, with a dually noted humored glance.
“Bet you all a round I can do it all in double time...”
no subject
Date: 2010-04-20 02:18 am (UTC)"Huh?" Pierce looked up from the final timer then grinned "Oh, because you're a baby. New recruit and all. We have to officially let you work your way to more extreme training runs, or else we really do get in trouble. Don't worry, at least the baby runs are entertaining." In that 'planned by a video game addict' kind of way.
"Aaaaand Hunnigan isn't qualified to run the advanced stuff, so we actually have to put you on a list and stuff to work with the strike team members and the senior agents like me, but don't worry, that doesn't take long. It's just getting your name into the right places." He shrugged, letting Leon take that as he would.
"You've picked up the coin of the realm quickly haven't you?" Leon was dooooomed now!
no subject
Date: 2010-06-05 07:47 am (UTC)Leon shifted slightly, foot sweeping out across the floor behind him as he taped the heel of his other foot with an itchy impatient toe, listening to Pierce as he informed him about the course and the red tape surrounding it. Disappointing, but at least he wasn’t going to have to play twenty questions. It was obviously not bothering him though, after all... on further reflection Leon wasn't really sure it was his place to go diving into things he only half understood.
“Guess I have… I look forward to it when I can.”
He hardly knew Pierce, after all, and even that certain feeling of kinship was one that didn't give him the right to go poking his nose into work affairs....
“Looks like she had fun...”
Being who he was, Leon loved the challenge of an obstacle ridden maze. There was no time to think of anything but where to catch the next handhold or when to jump to which platform. After only a few minutes he could always manage to clear his mind of anything but the exhilaration of using his body to its fullest. He guessed that was what attracted Aya so much, given her very private past.
“Speaking of, where’d she go?”
no subject
Date: 2010-06-05 07:54 am (UTC)"We'll see if the strike team hauls her out. Otherwise, well, she probably already headed out for the showers. I'd have to check the room passkey log for that." That would be cheating of course. And he tended not to cheat...much. With his friends anyway.
"Why? Want to see more?" Leon had Pierce's undivided attention now, cool blue eyes peering over the top of his sunglasses.
no subject
Date: 2010-06-05 08:19 am (UTC)“Sure, why not.”
Eye’s tracing over each televised image being broadcast on each monitor above Pierce’s work station, Leon couldn’t help but grin appreciatively. He hadn’t made many bad impressions here (yet), but of the few people he’d met, Agent Carradine was pretty much the one who projected a genuine fondness of their semi-shared interest. At least by the way he was acting.
“Won’t hurt right?”
Well if the room really could kill him, if there was a chance he might end up dead because of it, he figured he should probably get a clue for what he’d be in for.
no subject
Date: 2010-06-05 08:25 am (UTC)"Ohh, I bet there's some stuff you'd like to see." He leaned forward, fingers flying over the keys. "Movie tiiime!" one last key stroke and several of the screens switched from real time of the course to a recorded session.
"See, this one was fun. I got to flood the floor and run a swamp module."
no subject
Date: 2010-06-05 09:39 am (UTC)Joking around, Leon laughed, scratching his chin as he inspected the carefully crafted the swamp module. Certainly looked the part, a thin line of smoke layering water that obviously disguised half a dozen mechanical traps. Ok. Yes, he was more than curious now. His attention had now tunnelled into the single frame, ignoring the two or three now bored agents shuffling out of the room.
“That thing must’ve been a technical nightmare.”
But certainly more fun than any other gym session he could think of.
no subject
Date: 2010-06-05 09:47 am (UTC)"I know Hunnigan might have read you the rule book and trotted you around ever corner of the place, that's the way she is, but I don't want you to get the idea that we're all a bunch of stuck up suites like the folks in the FBI or the CIA." Pierce liked to give each new team member this speak, or a variation thereof when they came in. It was his duty as one of the founding team members. "We remember how to have fun because we go through hell most days of the week. No hard feelings if you can't hack it though alright? This isn't for everyone."
no subject
Date: 2010-06-19 01:59 am (UTC)Breathing in a way that was about as close to a laugh as Pierce was going to get under the circumstances, Leon nodded, sure he could handle it. With what Racoon city put him through, it made this obstacle look almost comforting in comparison. Luckily he wasn’t comparing the two.
Besides this looked like fun. It had been a long time since anything in his life had seemed like it was remotely approaching fun and he was not about to give it up simply due to the fact that it could be a little dangerous
“And as for Hunnigan….”
For some reason, it made Leon feel a bit safer when the person supposed to cover his back was vigilant with the rules. Even though he had no doubt the woman would do everything possible to discourage this activity, it still helped to know she wasn’t a bad person. She was easily incensed by ‘unruly’ behavior to be sure, but no rat willing to sell him out to the highest bidder.
“Don’t worry. Her and I have some kind of understanding on how things are supposed to work. I don’t think she’ll mind too much if I sign each dotted line and cross my t’s.” Leon tried to be friendly, impartial, but he wasn't quite sure what tack to use with the technical wiz kid in front of him. So straight to the point it was.
“But thanks for the concern… I think.”

Date: 2010-06-21 04:28 am (UTC)"I'm going to shut my baby here down and see if the strike team found Aya trapped when they opened those doors or not." And that way they'd know who won what bets and how many free drinks each person would have tonight. "It's about the end of our shift today, no emergencies came in, so we won't be around much longer. Any more questions?" He had to offer the chance to ask!
no subject
Date: 2010-06-21 08:28 am (UTC)Leon let out a self deprecating chuckle as he lifted a hand to his face, index finger hooked around its neck as he scratched his chin with a thumb absently. Hopefully he hadn’t
overstepped some kind of invisible line. Though he’d been stationed at agencies before, he’d never been to one quite like this. He didn’t know everyone there, and they weren’t exactly his people. Not yet.
”I should get going anyway. Thanks for showing me the course Pierce. Look forward to trying it out.” Baby course or no. “Take care of yourself.”
Though it might’ve sounded like one agent blowing off another, a faint smile tugged at Leon’s lips, the new agent turning around and making his way out the door and into the hallway, boots echoing in the large space as they hit the floors.
”Don’t have too much fun without me.”

Date: 2010-06-21 08:36 am (UTC)"Later, Leon. I'll let Aya know you like the courses." And he would too.
