Dinner, dancing

Who: Aya, a proud Ben, the boys?
When: A few weeks after getting to reconnect with the boys.
What: BEN FUSSES OVER A DRESS! Or you know, about a real date for Aya.
Ben was sitting on the foot of her bed.
Ben was sitting on the foot of her bed at...seven in the morning on her day off. "Nngh?"
"Are you awake?" He grinned. It was a dangerous grin.
Awake? Probably not. "Coffee."
"Brewing!" He knew the priorities! "C'monnnnn, I made french toast! And oven turkey bacon! Get upppp!"
"Why are we awake?" she grumped, snaking an arm out to drag him half under the blankets. If she pinned him down maybe he'd sleep like a sane child on a Saturday? She knew it was futile, once Ben was awake, he was awake, but still! The attempt had to be made!
"We have to pick up your dress!"
"My what now?" she blinked. This was news to her!
"You lost weight while you were under, Aya," and Ben REALLY DID NOT APPROVE. At all. "And your little black dress wasn't the right kinda dress anyway. You needed like a longer black dress with slits and neat cuts and stuff. I did research."
"You did research," she noted blankly. "On my dress?"
"On what kind of dress you wear dancing! Like good dancing, not club dancing you know?"
Screw sleeping, she was going to just thunk her head on the Ben bundle. "Of course you did. I knew I shouldn't have told you they asked me out proper dancing." Because that had been far too much fun, she was looking forward to it, but she hadn't expected a tiny tyrant deciding her wardrobe wasn't good enough! "Wait, when did you ORDER a dress? From where?"
"Ashley's on Second," he noted smugly. "Ms. Elcy helped me research a good place once a good cut was decided on! And I used my allowance for the downpayment! We need to get there by nine so they can do last minute tailoring, but it means, Ms. Elcy says, that it'll last you, and fit properly, for years! And there's a guarantee too, they will adjust and shift tailoring within the first five years as needed! That means they will shift stitching and stuff in case you have more muscle and stuff once you recover from being under so long!" He was young, yes, but he knew better than to say something like 'put on some weight' to a lady. His momma smacked him when he did.
Well, that effectively nixxed the idea of going back to sleep didn't it? "I've had my little black dress since dance classes in college. It works for everything!" she grumbled, kicking the blankets off finally. Kid had put down his own money, and there was a deadline. Crap. "Feed me you little terror."
Ben popped up, laughing, "I am! I made the whole package of bacon and like a whole loaf of french bread toast!"
Gods, when had the kid woken up?! "Did I hear your alarm go off?"
"I'm going to take a nap after lunch," he admitted. "Cause I was up at five!"
Gods her boy was disgustingly driven at times. She was proud of him even though she wanted to strangle him today. "Better," she sighed, getting her feet under herself. "And NOTHING Sunday, you hear me? You are to laze around and play games or something."
"Yes ma'am!" he laughed.
She eyed him, wondering if THAT edict had actually been the whole point but...nah. He was a good kid, and kind of like a sheepdog with one sheep to fret over, driven. Very driven to make sure the important people in his life were happy. "I'm coming, I'm coming, get the syrup ready!"
"Syrup!" Ben cackled, running back down the hall to the kitchen. Syrup, naturally, was the best part of a breakfast like this in his estimation. She, on the other hand, was sensible enough to spread peanut butter and honey on at least half of hers. AND fry up eggs. Ben had been right after all, she'd dropped weight this assignment, they all had. "So after dancing, and getting cleared is when you wanted to do vacation right? They're making you take those day right?" Ben chattered.
"Yeah kid, what did you decide?"
"Cruise! And Ms. Elcy is going to be there for part of it! She helped me figure out good adult stuff on a ship instead of just kid stuff you know? And I think maybe Braig and Dilan for part? at least the part near the Southern Continent!"
She blinked, poking his nose, "you've been plotting."
"Duh, you said I could! And you really like them! We just had to wait until you guys were all cleared to take time from work after the trials and stuff! I'm gonna need a bathing suit!"
"Me too kiddo, we'll do trip shopping next week okay?"
"'Kay!"
She shook her head ruefully and polished off her meal, "alright, taxi to second, then...I stand around like a dress dummy?"
"I think so yeah!" he grinned.
"Then lunch, then lists?"
"Nah, we have enough for lunches next week no shopping, no cooking, just dancing tonight for you!! And you'll stay out late and stuff and I"ll play games or watch a movie and go to bed!"
She snorted and gathered the empty plates, "got it all planned huh?"
"A lot of it!" he chirped, grinning. "Sometimes if you want a good future you need to work for it you know?"
She smiled slightly, "yeah, I know kid. Get the papers from school okay? For the trip?"
"I"ll only miss like four days you know. It's almost summer break, you guys were...gone a long time," he sighed.
Ah, yeah. Her time sense was all screwy in the real world again. "Ah, well, get papers for that," she sighed softly. "I know you've got all your work done, right?"
"Almost! I don't skip ahead too far so I don't run out of stuff to do if..."
If he was at his mom's house. She got it, yeah. "Alright, let's go to this fancy dress shop of yours."
Fancy indeed, Ben didn't hesitate to walk up to the door and pull it open, grinning, "brought her!" he called to the lady at the polished wood desk.
"Welcome back Benjamin," the woman smiled. "And this would be Aya, the dress is ready for fitting!"
Aya felt a touch grungy in her beaten leather jacket but nodded as the woman smiled easily, "alright. Full disclosure, I didn't find out about this until two hours ago," just to be clear her!
The woman chuckled, bustling her back while Ben laughed and bounced on a couch by the door, "I'll be right here looking at books! Ms. Elcy says I should look at a suit in case there's a dinner on the cruise!"
Hell. This was getting complicated wasn't it? "Good call," she squeaked at her boy before she was in a mirror paneled room on a stool, wearing soft, silky fabric and staring at the dress Ben had chosen. Well.
Then.
Boy had taste.
"The boys are going to thank Ben," she muttered to herself.
Yeeeeaaaaah.
Better the seamstress grinned and let her do leg lifts to test the range of the dress and she could move as easily as in yoga pants. Niiiiice. Dancing was going to be amazing tonight.
When she went to pay out the tab though the woman smiled, "no, it's covered, the boy gave us enough for what he thought was a down payment but there was a sale that day," she chuckled. "Plus he's adorable."
"He is, and utterly runs my life," Aya admitted sheepishly. "I"ve shoes to go with this, thank you all, I'll..."
"Be back I'm sure," the woman smiled. "Have a lovely day Ms. Brea, Benjamin."
"I think we will," Aya grinned, dress bag over her arm as Ben popped up off the couch.
