Marathon!

Aya had trained faithfully, just like she promised (and despite her period starting a few months after that promise. Really? She didn't need that!). The weights had been added by about the second month of training and she was really, really proud of her stamina!

And the marathon they'd chosen as their first was coming up this weekend, with fund raising as done by Elcy...and yeah. "Don't tell me you have to cancel!" she said into the phone, pulling one foot up to stretch out her thighs. "Don't! I can't go and do this alone!"

"I like that plan! I'll cook if they come over!" So Dilan could be social and supervise kitten visiting! "Can she keep my shirt so she remembers me?"

"Sure." Dilan said, smiling.

Braig returned with the can of food, split between two plates. He set one right next to the mother, then showed her the other one and put it in the cage.

"Yay!" Aya sat back enough to let Braig past with the food and watched intently to make sure the cat ate.

And yes, Momma Cat chirped in delight to see the food and shook kittens free enough to stand up and eat!

Dilan smiled at the momma and, very slowly, petted a kitten. Momma looked at him hard for a moment, then purred.

"Dilan, the cat whisperer!" Aya teased softly. She wasn't going to risk a kitten! She was going to keep petting Momma! "Do you think Braig could talk to lemurs?"

"I dunno." Dilan said, shrugging, "Maybe?" Momma moved over to the crate where the rest of the food was, and while she was there Dilan swept up the shirt-and-kittens...and stuck them in as well.

"Score six cats!" Aya held her hand sup in victory pose and Momma cat...finished her food and stomped the shirt into a proper nest in the carrier. The kitten meeped and tried to trundle away from stomping before nosing out the boundaries of their new home.

Dilan hefted the box, "Okay. You go back and help mom. Braig and I'll get the kitten box set up in the garage."

"And we'll call the vet after dinner and make an appointment?" Aya grabbed the plate from the old nest and hooked her free arm in Braig's (since Dilan had the carrier!).

"Yup." Dilan said. Braig bonked his head lightly against Aya's and led the way back to the house.

"Hey!" Aya laughed and rubbed the top of her head. "You've got a hard head! Ouch!" Dork. Naturally she had to bonk back, head to his cheek but hey!

"Sorry, monkey, didn't mean to hurt you." Braig said, "So. Guess we'll be spending the rest of the weekend on kitten duty, then going home with them."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Well, We can maybe bring them into the hall of we decide to go through the attic tomorrow?" Aya offered. "Maybe. Or, you know, play board games in the garage."

"We should probably leave them in the garage." Dilan said, "Unless we wanted to put them in your room, monkey? Then momma could come and watch us and get us if she needs something."

[mitochondriaaya]

"We can do my room! There's nothing in there right now to bother them!" Aya grinned. "And we can play board games on the floor!" They were still building the Game of Doom after all.

"Sounds good. I'll get things set up in there." Braig said, peeling away from her as they got home, "You finish up with mom, check on the bread and stuff."

Dilan just headed for the stairs.

"Same way as last time or new?" Aya asked curiously before bopping off through the kitchen door. "We're home mom! Got 'em! Gonna keep them in my room okay? And keep an eye on them there until the boys take them!" For the info dump!

Also, checking bread, punching it down, trying to snitch a spoon of stew!

"Same." Braig said, "Dilan's more comfortable like that." Which meant a big box turned on it's side with a blanket draped over it, and plenty of smaller blankets inside. A litter box was set near it, and after Momma cat had moved all her kittens into the box she used the litter box and went back into the cave.

Same was good! Aya came bopping up the stairs with the beef scraps for Dilan to snack on and some carrots for her and Braig. And another can of Cat's food! "Elcy's says another hour for bread and stew."

"Okay!" Dilan said, opening his mouth for the scraps. Braig dished up more food for the momma cat.

"Cat's going to be very confused when we get home." Braig mused.

[mitochondriaaya]

"Hey, you have fingers!" Aya snorted and dropped a single scrap in Dilan's mouth before pushing the bowl at him. "And you do too before you even ask!" Aya poked a carrot at Braig and then sat down at her spot of the board.

"And yeah, but she's a good cat and she knows no one will ever replace her! And she might like seeing kittens!"

Braig just grinned, "I never said I didn't." he pointed out as he chewed on his snack. Dilan laughed and dug out bits to eat himself.

Momma peeked out of the box and then went to eat again. She was really, really hungry.

"Yeah, but sometimes you both imitate baby birds," Aya pointed out. "Had to nip it in the bud!" Not that she didn't do the exact same thing. Oh no. Not her.

She held a finger out for Momma sniff while she was being curious, then fiddled with the box of gameboards. "I was thinking...does anyone know what Parcheesi is or should we just use the peg board differently?"

"Pot, kettle." Dilan snorted, "Uh. I do, but it's boring."

"Ditto." Braig admitted.

[mitochondriaaya]

"Pot, kettle, tire iron." Aya pointed at each of them in turn, ending on herself. "Huh, okay, so, can it be redeemed at all with crazy or is the final vote on the pegboard setting it aside?" This was how the game started, currently, one or all of them pulling a new board from the mixed box they'd gotten and voting on it.
