Graduation and beyond

Graduation was just before her birthday, so Aya was fifteen when she slithered into the graduation gown and tried her hat on. Walking with a tassel (as practice proved) was distracting. She wasn't katzu, true, but she still had the urge to bat at it. Instead she had to look calm. Sedate. Grown up.

Yeeeeah.

At least she wasn't Valedictorian, that would have added a whole new level of stress to her last year of school! And still she'd almost been swayed by the teacher who suggested she stay another year. Almost. Life didn't wait though and the boys were already so far ahead of her that it was a laughable idea to 'catch up' but hey, at least they could all be in college for some of the same years! Sure, not the same college but...yeah. She went out with her friends the night before graduation, a low key party out on a floating dock with a lot of silliness and loud music, but hey, they were all seniors, it was expected!

She made it home in the morning in time to toss back a mug of coffee and try to think about breakfast. "Have to be at the field at...four? Four thirty. Right. Yeah." More coffee. The message light on the answering machine was flashing so she hit the button and listened as her dad rambled cheerfully about it being the day, and he had his ticket to the graduation, and he wasn't going to lose it and what else did he need to remember? "Your head," she chuckled, listening. He'd been leaving messages all week as the day rolled closer. It was nice for Jerrig to be excited.

Granted, traffic was going to be hell with the town turning out to see graduation at the nearest sports field and tourists flooding in to see the surfing competition in the town nearby, but as long as everyone left early they'd be fine right? Right. It wasn't like she had to drive.

Maaaaaaaybe staying out all night hadn't been the best plan though. The coffee waqs sitting heavy in her stomach and she felt her hands tensing around the mug as REAL LIFE loomed up in her mind.

Ouch.

Yeah.

"What was I thinking?!" It was totally okay to ask these things of the empty kitchen, yep.

"Yeah..." Braig shrugged a bit, "But you're not just a beach kid. You're also one of mom and dad's."

"I bet you wore insane things under your robes, the guy robes are blue though." And therefore quite a bit more opaque. "Oh well. I have a white tennis outfit." Not that she played tennis, but that was what they found in all white when shopping!

"Nope." Braig and Dilan chorused, Dilan continuing, "Mom made us show her before we were allowed out of the house. Suits and ties."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Awwww, well, there goes my ideas of your young rebellion." She grinned and reached out her foot to poke Braig, then flopped half-off the counter to lean on Dilan's shoulder. "Is it boring? Or scary?"

"We had to give speeches." Dilan reminded her, "That part was scary. The rest was boring."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Yeah, I figured if I aimed for anything that required speeches I was going to give myself an ulcer." She she only aimed to graduate early, not be insane! "You guys would have killed me if I got an ulcer."

"Noooo..." Dilan said, "We would have babied you until either it went away or you kicked us in the head."

[mitochondriaaya]

"I could do a lot more kicking with an ulcer than I could when I had pnuemonia..." she mused thoughtfully. "But you'd still shake me or something for doing it to myself by being an idiot."

"Pretty much." Braig agreed, "Is there more coffee?"

"Half a cup. Want it, or want to wait for more?"

"Gimme."

Awwwww, Braig was getting the last half cup. Sad eyes! Alas! She should probably have more than muffins and coffee anyway? Yeah. "Who wants what?" Time to slide off the counter!

Dilan started making another pot of coffee! "Sausages and ham." he said.

Braig said, "Pancakes and sausages."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Mmmm, potato pancakes and mushrooms!" Aya grinned and started pulling things from the fridge. "Regular pancakes for you Braig?" She'd happily make three different kinds of breakfast today! It kept her occupied!

"Yeah." Braig agreed, "Thanks, babe."

"Thanks, Aya!" Dilan said.

[mitochondriaaya]

"How cooked Dilan? And anything besides meat?" Just to make sure! Meats were cooked first as a general rule, pancakes didn't take as long!

[sliceitwithwind]

"Warm!" Since no-one else was having what he was, he could get away with that, "And no, just the meats."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Sauces? Spices?" she called out cheerfully tipping his meat into a pan to warm on its own so she could grate potatoes. "And will one of you slice my mushrooms? Pleeeeeease?"

"Nope, just the meat." Dilan said, grabbing the mushrooms and chopping them.

Braig happily watched the coffee pot and topped everyone off when it was finished.

[mitochondriaaya]

"Coffeeeee..." yeah, she was doomed for life by this point. "Meat it is. And some sausages for Braig. Sweet today lemur? Maple on or spicy?"

[sliceitwithwind]

"Maple! To go with the pancakes." Braig said happily, settling back down to be taken care of.

[mitochondriaaya]

"After Dilan's meat then!" So maple flavor wouldn't bleed! "But I'll make your pancakes just after that! "Plate kitten!" The meat should be warm enough by now!

[sliceitwithwind]

"Thank you!" Braig said, passing Dilan a plate to pass to Aya.

[mitochondriaaya]

"Thank you! If you guys hadn't shown I'd have probably have grabbed something like a sandwich and gone back to fretting..." Meat onna plate! And the heat turned up for Braig's sausages!

"That would've been dumb." Dilan said, settling down to eat.

[mitochondriaaya]

"Well, yeah, but I'm nervous okay?!" she was honest? "It's a thing. It's a big thing and even my dad will be there. I said he could take some photos. A few. Nice ones."

"That's why we're here." Braig pointed out, "To help keep you from going nuts."
