Mercenaries at the door

Sometimes a man simply had to check in on his girls. They'd run a mission in Canada and the college was ENTIRELY on the way back after all...and the team wanted to see the girls too and...

...and Nevada couldn't really shake their last letter from his head. The girls were living with some unvetted young men and that could prove problematic. The helicopter set down in on the school pad (usually used for medivac units) and Nevada swung to the ground, waving off one of the school aides coming out to greet him,

He had an address. And a mission.

And after a quick run, well, a door to knock on. The pair of mercs that had followed him chuckled at the politeness but hey, it never hurt right?

"No, I haven't," he admitted. "It may be in my queue." For when he took vacations. The girls insisted.

"Military outfits that would invest in the stranger sciences rarely adhere to the morality of the standard man. What woudl you be looking for?"

"Fair enough." Braig said with a wry smile, "People who are more interested in justice than in money."

"Have you started researching military groups?" He asked simply. "If not the girls will be a good resource."

"A little bit." Braig said, "I don't want to bother the girls until they've had a year here or so, even if it's something they know well they really don't need one more thing on top of, well. KAOS."

[mitochondriaaya]

Braig got more points in the good column because of statements like that really. Still. "Speaking as an alumni to someone still here after an initial degree, an hour speaking of familiar things can be just as good for a person as a day away from this campus." Simple as that.

"Speaking of I'd like to take you all to dinner when the girls come back."

"Sure. There are a couple of restaurants around here that can feed everyone." Braig said, "I can grab the list...I'll also mention it to the girls, but make sure they know we're in no hurry."

"I," Nevada noted. "Have a copter. We are not limited to the nearest town. Anyplace within an hour with high grade food for everyone?"

"Hmmm." Braig leaned back, "Price range?" He lived with two dirt-poor college students and the girls. He, however, could afford anything he wanted to pay for...but that didn't mean he was going to fight someone who wanted to buy him dinner. You don't stay rich by throwing money away.

"Irrelevant given the latest mission," Nevada shrugged. He'd be curious to see how the boys took that really. Not in a money sense but in a 'what would they come up with without an upward limit?' sense! "And you know the dietary needs of your household." He assumed. He could feed a mixed crew without thinking but these were KAOS kids. Their dietary needs may differ from mercenary needs.

"Okay. Certru is the best place in the state, but you're looking at twenty dollars or more a plate, and Dilan requires at least two of 'em. Danter's has the biggest plates for the best price, around fifteen a plate but even Dilan only needs one; but the quality of the food is sharply lowered. Hir de Loue, for all it sounds fancy, is a buffet that can feed everyone for around ten a person but it's buffet food."

"Certru sounds like the best bet then," he admitted. "No use taking a large group to a place where the food isn't up to par." Cook would kill them if they ate low quality stuff while out.

"Right." Braig said, "Let me go chase Dilan up to get a regular shirt on instead of the wife-beater."

He shrugged, happy with whatever really. "I'll be bringing two obvious mercenaries. He can wear what he likes."

"No, he can't." Braig said wryly, standing to go chase his boyfriend to the bedroom for shirt changing, "It's a social norms thing, not a you thing. I want him to be in the habit of wearing more in restaurants."

"That is perfectly fair then," household rules were household rules! And he was happy to wait...

...the girls got home before the boys were back down again. "Perry and Marc are outside! NEVADA!" was the general, happy call as they dropped gear i order to hug him! Hugs were important.

Braig took the time to go hunt Pierce down and get him to close Sheeva up and come join the rest of them.

Dilan wandered out with his hair in a pony-tail and a nice button-down shirt. "Welcome home Aya, Maya."

The girls had settled on the couch, one on either side of Nevada when the boys came down. "Hello Dilan. Braig." Aya greeted with a smile.

"Nevada says you didn't kill each other!" Maya laughed.

"...No?" Dilan said, confused, "Was...that a possibility?"

"No, dude, it's fine."

Aya reached across Nevada to smack her sister upside the head then climbed to her feet. "No Dilan, he was teasing us and she carried it on. C'mon, I'll introduce you to Perry and Marc outside!"

Maya snorted and rubbed her head dramatically for a moment, "Sorry."

"Oh." Filed away into weird things people say and dismissing the necessity of making bio-weaponry tailored to Nevada. "Okay, Aya."

Braig grinned at Nevada and shrugged.

Aya trotted over to hook her arm in Dilan's, the better to steer him outside for introductions! She was grinning ear to ear and obviously excited, and the two men outside were grinning almost as bright when hey popped outside. "Perry on the left, electronic securities and grid programming, Marc, sniping and piloting!"

"Aya!" The laughed. "First aid and letter writing!"

Aya facepalmed "I'm sorry I forgot this week!"

Inside Nevada chuckled and looped an arm over Maya's shoulders before climbing to his feet.

Pierce turned to the securities guy and immediately engaged him in conversation. Dilan smiled vaguely and said, "Can't you do both?"

Aya laughed and patted Dilan's arm, "They were teasing, meaning we forgot to write to them so we're falling down on our job kind of." Sort of. SHE WAS SORRY!

"Why are they complaining? They got to visit!" Maya laughed from the doorway as the rest came out of the house.

"...I'm confused." Dilan said slowly, "Why is it your job?"

"Because as long as we write they don't worry," Aya admitted, her cheeks going red.

"It's a lot like having a whole troop of parents."

"FAVORITE UNCLES!" Marc corrected. "At least us. The ladies in the group can be what they want to you!"

"Not helping!" Aya laughed.
