Who: Nevada, Braig, Elsy, Yinsi
When: Around the time Braig turns thirteen.
What: Nevada...lays out some plans. Prequal to this.

"I'm not sure I'm comfortable with this," Elsy admitted, wrapping her hands around the coffee cup in her hands. It had been...a long few days recently. "Safety, sure, all the kids need that but..."

Yinsi sighed, reaching out to touch her hand, "but..."

With that brief interruption, given Nevada's personal issues, well, he could get an word in edgewise. He wasn't good at interrupting full grown women. "But Braig is different from the other two," he admitted quietly. His cup was full of water. He could live on coffee at need, but he didn't need to recently. "Safety lessons aren't enough. Guns...belong in his hand." He didn't have to look up to see the expressions on the parents faces. No, he could imagine them quite well. A mix of pride and worry.

How else would a true parent react to that news after all?

Gun safety and handling was common sense in this country, just like magic safety. The kids had reacted with the predictable excitement and apprehension, though Aya had at least the basics prior. He was a touch relieved to know that Jerrig had ensured that at least, anyone growing up near a gun safe needed the basics! He figured the boys had such as well but were better at hiding their prior knowledge.

The boys did that a lot he was learning. Suppressing the 'this is routine' reaction so Aya didn't feel excluded. He appreciated that even though it made judging their skill level hard at times. Girl needed peers, and sure, she wasn't a genius but she was the one most capable of keeping up with the pair as far as he could judge after a few weeks to observe the local youth. He was relieved that they included her without being patronizing.

But individual lessons and time were...just as important and it was best that, well, "we can start next week. It will be part of Braig's personal time with me if you two consent." He was working out individual lessons for each of the children honestly. That was one of his strengths, identifying needs and addressing them, and all people needed one on one at times.

Kids should be no different, or so he told himself. This was all new territory after all.

Still, he knew that inner calm and that smile when Braig had a gun in his hand. The comfort level, that feel like the weapon was an extension of the self. Even in someone who was barely a teen, well, it was obvious. Hence this meeting, mainly because he realized that he was only allowed to plan Aya's time without outside consultation. "Better he learns control and respect now rather than later. This early he'll take to the lessons better than later with the degree of compatibility he has."

"We're not raising a soldier..." Elcy noted, worried.

"No," he agreed, surprising even himself with how quickly he could respond to that, "He's not suited to being a soldier, but it's a discipline like any other. Sword, martial arts, anything like that, it calls to him, best to lay foundations. And it will be something that is just his. A skill none of the others have, and that is important."

Yinsi considered that for a long moment then nodded slightly, "Just his, and something to be quietly proud of. I can't teach him to the degree you can." He was no bad shot himself but he didn't have the calm love of it that Nevada did.

Elcy eyed her husband for a long moment then drained her mug before nodding despite herself, "alright. I'd like lessons as well."

Nevada swallowed, shooting a look at Yinsi. That was...

"Good idea," the older man smiled slightly. "I can't teach you further either."

Fuck fuck fuck. He gripped his glass until he noticed the water inside rippling with tension then forced himself to relax, "Yinsi will be present."

"Of course."

"Pick a time," he offered tensely. "Braig's lessons will be on his normal day with me."

Elcy nodded, "what can I do to make it easier on you?"

Nevada closed his eyes a moment then drew a deep breath, considering that, "act as a student, dress in a manner suited to the range. Make sure your hair is secured." As he didn't expect the woman to have a short cut like Aya.

She smiled, "I can do that."

Elements help him. "Alright then. I will teach Braig in every weapon I may to the extent of his comfort levels. And he will earn the necessary permits and certifications," back to anything like solid ground!

"I'm sure they'll look excellent on his transcripts," Yinsi noted mildly.

Of course they would. "I don't hold with sport shooting though. Hunting is permissible as there are those who will eat any game brought down here, but I won't be teaching him to flush pheasant or anything." Guns versus birds smaller than his fist was ridiculous.

"Wouldn't have it any other way," Yinsi agreed, smiling.
