The elastic strap was suppose to go around her ankle. Of course, the board she'd gotten hadn't exactly come with instructions (that she saw anyway), so she had it kinda tucked in the shoulder strap of her swimsuit. She couldn't find her flip-flops, but she did remember sunblock! That as the important part right?

The boys had promised to teach her how to surf! Or wake surf...or wade, or something. She could swim a little, and she didn't think they'd be going very deep, but this was her first time to the beach that wasn't poking at tide pools. She felt kinda...grown up.

Yep, very grown up with a board almost as big as she was.

Hang on, hang on, IT WAS TRYING TO TALK TO HER! That or it wanted something from her pockets. Treats? What did one give a dolphin?

WAIT! She didn't have pockets in a swimsuit!

Thankfully Braig was, apparently, fluent. "YES! Having two of us ride won't hurt him will it?"

"Nope, they're very strong. Okay, slide over onto it and hold tight onto it's fin while I get on." He turned to the side so she could slide over easily and paddled water until she was settled, then slipped on behind her and put his arms around her to hold onto the fin as well. "You okay?"

EEEEEEEEEEEEE SHE WAS SITTING ON A DOLPHIN EEEEEEEEEEE!

She did manage to remember to hold onto the fin, despite her mental squeeing! "Yes! I'm okay! Is the dolphin okay? ARE YOU OKAY?" Naturally this was addressed to the dolphin as she bent over his fin.

"He's fine." Braig promised, "He'd let us know if he wasn't." He gripped the dolphin with his thighs, and it took off into the water, arcing (but not diving) and speeding along.

"How? Do the squeak? Or click? Ohohohohoh, Morse code?!" she had learned about Morse code. It was a clicky code! Used on ships! Dolphins could totally have heard it!

THEY WERE MOVVVVVVING! Yep, her questioned trailed off into a giggly, wet scramble to hold on tighter.

"He'd roll us over and I'd have to swim you back." Braig grinned, keeping a strong grip on both Aya and the dolphin as it darted around and squarked at other dolphins.

[mitochondriaaya]

"Oh...that makes sense!" She pried one hand off the fin to carefully pat the dolphin, just to make sure he knew she didn't intend to do anything to deserve rolling? Oh wait, what if it didn't like patting? "SORRY!"

Eep.

Hee hee!

"Hey, there's Dilan! HEY DILAN! Yours is GREEN!"

"Uh huh." Dilan called back, keeping a tight grip and not waving. He didn't float worth a damn and would be embarrassed if the dolphin had to rescue him.

"Don't worry about it." Braig says at the sorry, "Just don't yell, okay? Remember, I have sensitive ears."

"Oh, right, sorry." Did dolphins have ears? Should she lean down better so he could hear her whisper?

Yes, this would be Aya stretching and twisting sideways trying to check for ears.

"Aya! Stay still!" Braig said, gripping her around the waist, "Just enjoy the ride, okay? We can talk to the dolphin when we're done playing."

She WAS enjoying the ride! And looking for ears!

Wait, Braig was smart right? He was totally smart! "DO they have ears?" At least she straightened up and tilted her head back to look at...the bottom of his chin.

"They have ear holes." Braig agreed, nodding slightly, "Don't put your fingers in them, okay? It's not nice."

[mitochondriaaya]

"...why would I poke them in the ear if I want them to hear me? That would block the noise!" Ah, LOGIC!

WAAAAAAAAIT!

"Where are they? ARE THEY NEAR MY FEET? I'M SORRY DOLPHIN!" Just in case.

"Aya. Stop yelling." Braig half-whimpered, "It really hurts my ears. They're up near his head."

"Oh, right, sorry." She was, she really was! She just forgot that sometimes (a lot). Then she was...peering past the fin. "There's no neck, so where does his head stop?"

"I'll show you when we get off." he promises. Although in this case it's more I'll make Dilan show you.

"Okay!" Until then she was going to assume Braig would tell her if she was kicking the dolphin in the ear! Back to giggling? With the occasional 'You can beat him, giddyup!' to their ride.

The dolphin giggled and chattered along with Aya's enthusiasm, and then got into a race with an orange dolphin that took them in a giant loop around the rest of the pod.

Dilan, meanwhile, was back in shallower water looking at some of the dolphins who had minor bumps and bruises and using little bits of healing magic on them.

"Whoa...Dilan is a dolphin doctor?" Aya asked when they circled close enough for a good view of what was going on. "Coooool. Like a vet! Do you do that too Braig?" For the record, dolphins were much cooler than looking after a class pet or something.

"Dilan'll heal anything that asks." Braig says with pride, "Even if he's not supposed to. Nah, I'm not as good as he is with delicate things. I can do people pretty well, but I don't know as much about animals. Kind of like he doesn't make plans, and you don't do science."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Hey, I did my homework!" She did! It was science homework! About seeds! Hers was an orange seed. She liked oranges! "I even watered it!" So there!

"Oh, so, he does dolphins and stuff, you do people? Why wouldn't you guys be supposed to?" Ah, six year old grammar was also fun?

"Sometimes. He does more healing than I do, he's better at it." Braig doesn't mind admitting that Dilan is better at some thing than he is. At least not to Aya, his mom and Lenna both tell him that it's important for little kids development to know that nobody is good at everything (even if he totally is, Dilan is just better). "We're not supposed to do magic outside of school. You won't be either, when you start learning magic."

"It's practice then? Can't you just say healing stuff is like homework then? So you don't get in trouble?" Ahhhh, yes, voluntary homework was the best kind? "You should practice more! Then you can both be the best and get prizes!" Like a school medal?

Or something.

"I wanna learn Moogle magic!"

"If you can learn Moogle magic it'll make you famous." Braig said with a grin, "Nobody but Moogles has ever managed to. And you'd think it could be like homework, but it's not."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Duh, we're all gonna be famous cause we already talk Moogle some and you guys are already healers and stuff right? And I'll learn to make stuff and blow stuff up like a Moogle! And you guys will be...my bodyguards?" Famous people had bodyguards right? FAMOUS BODYGUARDS!

"Huh. That's dumb. Can they like...suck all your magic out if they catch you or something?"
