Aya had trained faithfully, just like she promised (and despite her period starting a few months after that promise. Really? She didn't need that!). The weights had been added by about the second month of training and she was really, really proud of her stamina!
And the marathon they'd chosen as their first was coming up this weekend, with fund raising as done by Elcy...and yeah. "Don't tell me you have to cancel!" she said into the phone, pulling one foot up to stretch out her thighs. "Don't! I can't go and do this alone!"

Date: 2012-10-25 08:21 am (UTC)Elcy let him go and went back to her stew. "Thank you. What's Dilan doing now?"
"I told him he could dust for fifteen, then we were going to go wander around the neighbourhood."
"Aya, you can go with them if you'd rather."

Date: 2012-10-25 08:41 am (UTC)"Did you know there's kittens in the old barn?!" Granted, they might be gone a while.

Date: 2012-10-25 08:43 am (UTC)Braig said, "No! We should go and check on them. Has anyone taken them to the vet yet? You better keep watch so that they can get spayed and neutered, and their mom too."

Date: 2012-10-25 08:57 am (UTC)"And no, I don't think so! I haven't seen anyone else around the barn lately! I've been checking on them though and left one of my shirts so they'd get used to my scent!"

Date: 2012-10-25 08:59 am (UTC)A bit later Dilan came in and washed his hands, "I heard something about kittens?" he said, hopefully. Cats liked him.

Date: 2012-10-25 09:22 am (UTC)"Mom," Braig asked, "If we can catch the mother, can we bring them here to the garage to tame them so that they'll make good pets?"
"Yes, dear...although you'll either have to take them to college with you or ask Aya if she wants to do that much work."

Date: 2012-10-25 09:29 am (UTC)Dilan, after a bit of calling around...taking them almost all the way to the barn, said; "Okay! I got five kitten parents lined up."

Date: 2012-10-25 09:36 am (UTC)"And they won't be ready to leave their mom for a few more weeks at least but we can have the vet look them over and make sure they have no fleas and stuff..." The old barn was exactly that, and old barn on the edge of town that no one even remembered who it belonged to. The doors were weather beaten and faded, with a few silly things scrawled on them by the town's version of punk kids.
Inside it was sound though, and dry with the scent of old hay and some kind of machine oil. "Far corner, behind the ladder!"

Date: 2012-10-25 09:37 am (UTC)Dilan went in first, purring and prrrp!ing to let the mother cat know that he was there.
Braig hung out in the doorway, watching.

Date: 2012-10-25 09:45 am (UTC)Dilan got stared at!
And Aya set the carrier down gently just inside the door and grinned. "She used my shirt! I tried to find the softest one..."

Date: 2012-10-25 09:47 am (UTC)Braig wandered over next to Aya and smiled, "Well, of course she'd do that."

Date: 2012-10-25 09:54 am (UTC)And yes, the mother showed no initial dislike of them, sniffing any digits held near her when she wasn't pinning and washing kittens! As long as no one tried to touch the bitty things all was well!
"I didn't notice she had a crooked paw before! Oh you poor baby!"

Date: 2012-10-25 09:56 am (UTC)Braig offered his fingers as well, then stroked mama between the ears.

Date: 2012-10-25 10:04 am (UTC)Momma cat gave Braig a raspy purr after a moment. It was a startling, gravel-in-blender sound far louder than should come from a small cat but still! It was a purr for Braig!

Date: 2012-10-25 10:06 am (UTC)"On it." the smaller man said, jogging off after one last pet. "I'll be back, momma...with food."
Dilan started stroking her, then, not trying to touch the kittens.

Date: 2012-10-25 04:53 pm (UTC)And momma cat was going to eventually flop on her side for more petting, which the kittens took as a signal for 'time to eat'.
