Marathon!

Aya had trained faithfully, just like she promised (and despite her period starting a few months after that promise. Really? She didn't need that!). The weights had been added by about the second month of training and she was really, really proud of her stamina!

And the marathon they'd chosen as their first was coming up this weekend, with fund raising as done by Elcy...and yeah. "Don't tell me you have to cancel!" she said into the phone, pulling one foot up to stretch out her thighs. "Don't! I can't go and do this alone!"

"So." Braig asked, smiling down the couch at her, "Did you enjoy seeing us as little kids?"

"Yeah, you guys were good kids!" Aya laughed. "And you were sooooo adult! You were like a little Yinsi! Gotta get clean, what if it makes him sick..." she teased happily. "So responsible!"

"Hey, Aunt Lenna gave him to me." Braig said, "I've gotta take care of him."

"'M not a pet."

"Not a pet but certainly our kitten." Aya reached out to pet Dilan's leg with a grin and tucked herself sideways on the couch to sprawl on his knees. "And you take good care of him."

"We've got a good thing going." Braig said quietly, reaching over to pet Aya as well as Dilan, "A really good thing." Love me.

"We do! I'm glad you guys found me!" Else it would still be the two of them! They'd have a good thing but she wouldn't! "But if Dilan ever drops a lizard tail down my I'm going to smack him."

"I won't drop a lizard tail down your shirt." Dilan promised, "I was really little!"

"Yeah, now he can stuff the whole lizard in his mouth."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Yeah, but now your mouth is way above me!" Aya laughed. "If you were chewing a lizard and it was fighting..." and he was standing over her that'd be an issue!

"Remember that time we tried to find porch lizards because Dilan wanted one when he was sick?" Incoherent mumbling totally translated to 'GET HIM WHAT HE WANTS' with them!

"Aya, I break their necks." Dilan said, "It'd be cruel otherwise."

"Heh, yeah. Man, that was a lousy year."

[mitochondriaaya]

"THEIR TAILS MOVE INDEPENDENTLY ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY COME OFF!" It was a twitch reaction or something! "And yeah, it was, and Elcy wouldn't let us go get a lizard at the pet store. Now that I think about it, he said 'Izard' then didn't he?"

"Aya, stop yelling." Braig asked, wincing, "We're in the house. Yeah, he did. Can't blame him, can you? He was really sick."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Sorry!" she winced and reached up to pat Braig. "Sorry. Wiggly tails." Yeah. Anyway. "And yeah, he was. And when we got back from trying to find lizards he was asleep again. Did we ever let that snail go?" The one they found when checking under the porch and brought inside just in case!

"Yeah, I put it outside." Braig said, smiling and stroking Dilan's dreads. "We got him to drink soup instead, when he woke up."

"I'm really lucky that I've got you two, to take care of me."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Oh good, 'cause I forgot and I didn't want to run into a poor little mummy snail." She'd feel bad about that really! "And hey, we like taking care of each other! You guys took care of me last night! And when Braig gets colds we take care of him!"

"Yeah. We're a pretty awesome family." Dilan agreed.

Braig nodded and reached over to pet Aya.

[mitochondriaaya]

"We'll go down in history!" Aya laughed and snuggled under Braig's hand. "Or you guys will. That thing with Ansem still looking good? I think you guys should do it!"

"Yeah, we're going to." Dilan agreed, "It'll be fun...we'll get to work with the best!"

"Who's the best?" Aya asked curiously. "I mean, besides you guys? Will you have to leave the country? Can I come?"

"Nah, we'll be staying in states." Dilan said, as Braig rattled off a list of other people in their fields.

[mitochondriaaya]

"Well, maybe you had to go work with guys in wheelchairs in Hong Kong or something!" Aya laughed to Dilan's assertion. She was relieved though. "Are they fun?"

"Yeah! Everyone is really great about how young we are...it doesn't matter, you know? All that matters is that we can do the work."

"It's awesome...just what I always wanted."

[mitochondriaaya]

"So they want your brains and it's okay you're not all the way grown yet! Awesome!" she grinned. "You still get to play games and stuff though right? You don't have to act like adults all the time?" Because she wouldn't like that for them.

"I'm glad you're happy. You get your labs and science and get to talk all in elements if you want?"

"Yeah, of course." Dilan said, "We get to play all the time...it's just...science is like playing. It's fun, as well as useful."

"It's not just a job, babe."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Huh," Aya sighed, thinking that over. "It's fun when I do science with you guys? But everyone else thinks it's just...schoolwork?" she offered. "You guys think different! It's cool!"

"I hope I love my job like that when I'm grown up."

"I know." Braig said, "Dilan and I are different...but I bet that when you find the job you love, you'll love it as much as we love science."

"Yeah!" Dilan agreed, "We won't let you settle for less."
