Marathon!

Aya had trained faithfully, just like she promised (and despite her period starting a few months after that promise. Really? She didn't need that!). The weights had been added by about the second month of training and she was really, really proud of her stamina!

And the marathon they'd chosen as their first was coming up this weekend, with fund raising as done by Elcy...and yeah. "Don't tell me you have to cancel!" she said into the phone, pulling one foot up to stretch out her thighs. "Don't! I can't go and do this alone!"

"No, that was a good noise, we made it, we're here, I'm going to hang up now and get out of the car!" Click. "So doomed." Getting out of the car anyway!

"At least we'll go down together." Dilan said, holding an arm out for Aya. Braig slid up to her other side and did the same, then the three of them went in.

"You're not as late as I feared." Elcy said, looking them over.

[mitochondriaaya]

"Yep, we will. And suffer a lack of cookies together." Because they worked like that! When they got in Aya posed artlessly between the boys, smiled, and blinked guileless blue eyes up at Elcy. "We didn't know. We're sorry."

Elcy just chuckled and shook her head. "I raised Braig, Aya, that stopped working on me when he was six."

"To be fair, Aya's cuter than I was." Braig said, loyally.

"Also," Dilan said, "Braig was able to use two year old me against them, then."

[mitochondriaaya]

"And he was told then to stop using the toddler to get out of trouble," Elcy said, unperturbed. "Now, you are late. Make your apologies then enjoy yourselves." And thank people! "Braig, keep an eye on them both, marathons take a lot out of people and this is their first."

"Mommmmm," Aya drawled softly. "We won't fall down until after we get home okay?"

"Will do." Braig promised before dragging the others off to mingle.

Dilan said, "I kind of wish I remembered being used."

"Why?" Aya asked curiously after exchanging hugs with one of the ladies who had donated. "If you were two it couldn't have been too terrible right?" In theory?

"And Braig can fill you in if you want to know anyway!" Right?

"'Cause I'm betting it was funny?" Dilan said, "And because he talks about how cute I was, a lot."

"Dude."

"It's true!"

Aya glanced between the boys and shrugged. 'I bet you were?" She wasn't there though! Oh, idea! "Elcy tried video taping before she decided she liked scrapbooking right? Where did those end up?"

The boys looked at each other, "Might be in the attic? We can look?"

"I bet they have both of you bitty," that was a yes to looking! And probably a lot of Braig doing something off camera because he'd set Dilan up as camera bait but...

"Probably." Dilan agreed, "It'll be cool to look at us."

Braig nodded, "I'll look tomorrow."

[mitochondriaaya]

"If you don't find them before I finish homework I'll help1' Aya offered with a grin. She liked crawling around in the attic? There were always interesting things to see up there! "But that'll be late because I'm sleeping in."

"Sounds good." Braig said, "I'm also sleeping in, you know." Because he could.

"I'll look." Dilan said with amusement.

"Start late so there's at least the chance we can help?" Aya laughed and squeezed both their arms before the mayor's son claimed her for a dance. It was a slow, sedate waltz playing now and he probably just wanted to show off the fact he could waltz.

Luckily the kimono worked well for waltzing!

Dilan was about to say something, but then Aya was swept away.

And soon enough the boys were, too.

It took less than an hour for Dilan to be tired of "You're so big!"

To be fair to Dilan he'd been hearing it on and off again for something like six months now? Still, society gossip being what it was they knew who Dilan was dating now, but the tall fact hadn't filtered through. Aya came to rescue him with a murmured "No, we're just all so short. It's a shame really." and a smile.

"The widow Raelle wants to speak with us for a moment ladies. Thank you!"

"Have I mentioned that I love you?" Dilan asked Aya as she pulled him away, "Because I really love you. A lot."

[mitochondriaaya]

"It never hurts to hear it more!" Aya laughed, threading her arm through Dilan's. "And she really does want to see us, but just to talk about the marathon I think. Then I'll dance with you until the ten year olds want to dance again?" She was the right height to dance with the younger kids!

"Okay, that sounds good." Dilan smiled at the widow when they got to her, "It's good to see you again."

[mitochondriaaya]

"And you," the widow greeted cheerfully. "I didn't make it out to watch the running so please sit and tell me how it went?" Aya took a chair gratefully and swung her feet to stretch her legs a little.

"It was really fun!" Dilan said, settling down and grinning, "Aya and I both did really well...I was twenty-seventh in. Next time I'm going for a better place."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Eighty-sixth!" Aya offered cheerfully. "But that was really pushing so I'll have to train better for next time." She had faith Dilan could take first though!

The widow smiled and fanned herself with the small fan in her hands while she listened. "That is very good for a first run! I want to know what kind of training you intend for the next race. I need to know what kind of effort I'm investing in."

"Well, when we go down to the Katzu territories we're going to be training in the heat there. Aya's been using leg weights, I'm gonna start doing the same thing." Dilan recited, "I'm doing daily runs, Braig is too but he's kinda slow and doesn't plan on doing marathons."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Ah, yes, heat training will be rather taxing." As far as she knew. "And if Braig does decide to run please tell me so I can adjust accordingly." Thinking, thinking...

"If you write me weekly letters as you train this summer I will double my donation for you both."
