Marathon!

Aya had trained faithfully, just like she promised (and despite her period starting a few months after that promise. Really? She didn't need that!). The weights had been added by about the second month of training and she was really, really proud of her stamina!

And the marathon they'd chosen as their first was coming up this weekend, with fund raising as done by Elcy...and yeah. "Don't tell me you have to cancel!" she said into the phone, pulling one foot up to stretch out her thighs. "Don't! I can't go and do this alone!"

"Well, mine has to be cooked and I still need to eat some veggies and grains, but yeah!" Aya laughed. "Current theory is that I ended up with a semi-katzu stomach or something after my mom's car accident! I don't remember because of a blinky memory eraser!" Her doctors were weird but fun?

"Ohhh, Wagners."

"It'll still be cool." Dilan said, "You can be my mini-Alnat!"

"I don't think there is such a thing as a mini-Alnat, dude."

"Do katzu have dwarfism?" Aya asked curiously. "I could pretend I'm a dwarf? Or I could find those ears from Halloween way back and dye my skin again, go as mini-Dahnil!"

"Yeah, but dwarf Katzu are, you know, like 5'5?" Dilan said, "A lot of them do move out of the Territories. Nah, the skin dye stained your hair for a long time."

"Dorks." It was loving, though.

"I could be 5'5''! Eventually! Some day!" Aya truly believed it was possible! "I could even be six foot maybe you never know!" Her dad was...not six foot but she was weird anyway so why not?

"Okay, Alnat. And we're good dorks."

"You're the best dorks." Braig agreed, "I grabbed extra clothing for you, so if you want to change you can. Both of you."

"Ooo, pass up hakama for me?" Dilan asked. Because changing clothing in a moving car wouldn't be at all distracting for the driver, no.

"You're a genius!" Aya laughed, leaning forward to kiss Braig's cheek. "Why didn't we think of that?!" And yes, passing clothing forward. Aya had it easy with a whole back seat to change in!

Gleh, ace bandage marks and salty clothing stiffness! Yeah, they should have remembered their own clothes! Or...mostly their own. Aya was totally wearing whatever shirt Braig had grabbed for her, her own or no!

"Well, duh." Braig said, "Smartest guy in the world. Or Dilan is. One of the two."

Dilan wiggled out fairly easily and into new clothing with a sigh of relief. There were two of Dilan's shirts in the bag, one tank-top and one short-sleeved. She could wear either of those.

"You guys can tie! It's not like you're focusing on the same fields right? So there's room to share!" Elcy had recently pounded into her that wearing Dilan's tank tops with nothing under now was inappropriate so, short sleeve shirt! The tank got passed forward, because, well, dining out so Dilan had to wear it! "Still, we should have remembered clothes."

It was a dark shirt, too! Deep, dark purple. Dilan wiggled into the tanktop and said, "Thanks, Ayay!" as Braig pulled into the parkinglot.

It was a nice restaurant. The kind where there was no dress code purely because if you could afford to eat there, you could afford to dress however you wanted. Braig's family were well known, and the three kids were greeted with a smile.

"My, Dilan, you've gotten huge!"

"I know, right? I'm gonna have a lot of steak."

Dark purple made a nice contrast with beach blonde hair and great big blue eyes! She knew this for a fact because there had been discussions about what to wear to fund raisers! Score looking good in Dilan's shirt! Her pants were dark cutoffs so it all worked well! "Me too! Or maybe chicken!"

"The chicken pie tonight is really good," the waiter confided.

"Ohhhh...and a couple baskets of fried samplers to share?"

"And the veggie platter." Braig agreed as they sat down, "Twice over."

Dilan nodded, "Biggest steak, times two."

"Whole chicken pie!" At least the waiters knew them well enough to know they weren't exaggerating? "Huh, do the waiters know you guys yet in your college town?" This had just occurred to her!

Also? Breadsticks! Breadsticks with honey butter!

"Some of 'em." Dilan said, diving for his share of the bread, "Couple of places know us."

"Although they're going to lose their shit over Dilan's new size."

He didn't have to dive! She wasn't hoarding it! In fact she was buttering a cracked open breadstick for Braig! SHARING! Eh, who was she kidding? Snatch the breadstick, was tradition!

"Remember when people used to stare at us?" When they were all itty bitty and eating like black holes? "And double check all our orders with Elcy and Yinsi?" It was funny really! "Maybe you could have the places around your flat call the places here? Like dining references! And they shouldn't panic over Dilan he's not even eating triple anymore!"

Also, he was hungry. Dilan eat.

"Thanks, Aya." Braig said, sedately eating his tasty, tasty treat.

"Yeah." Dilan said, laughing, "It was pretty funny...hmm. We could do that..."

Dilan had burned a lot of energy today! It was allowable savage behavior as long as he didn't regress any further!

"You're welcome!" Aya didn't manage sedate eating. She didn't even try but hey! She liked sharing despite that! She had maybe three to Braig's one? "And references could help reassure them all you're not college idiots pulling an ordering prank?" Aya pointed out. "Maybe get a little book for servers to write in..."

"I don't think we're going to need to go that far." Braig said, shaking his head, "Just going in and eating everything we order will be proof enough."

"Mmmmbreadstick." said Dilan.

"Awww, it could be funny though!" Aya grinned at Braig and passed him another breadstick. "And what if they think you're pranking them and don't even let you finish ordering?" Hmmm, was it worth it to race Dilan's hand to the last breadstick?

...

Duh.

Dilan tore it in half after he got it and handed her the slightly bigger side. Because she was his and he loved her.

"Then we order one dish at a time and keep eating them. Duh."

Aya beamed at Dilan, buttered her piece, and tore that in half to share with Braig. That was just how they worked! "Oh." That...hadn't occurred to her! "You guys don't end up chewing the plates that way?!" She'd be tempted to chew plates!

"Nah." Dilan said, shaking his head, "Generally we time it so that as we finish one dish the next is coming out, so it means everything stays hot."

"Thanks, monkey." Braig said.

"That makes sense. I'll have to remember that!" For when she was in college! "Did I tell you Mom and Dad laughed when I was trying to explain locust swarms for a project I was working on? They said swarms were easy, they just needed to be adopted and seated at the table with everyone else..."

"Really? You've gotta give us more context." Dilan said, confused.

"Locust swarms were an issue in the depression era!" Aya grinned. "And they descended on a food source in a cloud, and in moments..." Yep, time to pick up and drop the empty breadstick basket lightly!

"I think they meant locusts had nothing on us and they sit down to dinner with us all the time!"
