Marathon!

Aya had trained faithfully, just like she promised (and despite her period starting a few months after that promise. Really? She didn't need that!). The weights had been added by about the second month of training and she was really, really proud of her stamina!

And the marathon they'd chosen as their first was coming up this weekend, with fund raising as done by Elcy...and yeah. "Don't tell me you have to cancel!" she said into the phone, pulling one foot up to stretch out her thighs. "Don't! I can't go and do this alone!"

"We'll talk to him when we're down there, then." Dilan said cheerfully, pushing Braig's plate a little closer to him, since the older boy seemed so deep in thought.

"Okay!" Aya grinned and then caught the movement of Braig's plate. Huh. "Are you sciencing at the dinner table?" What else could make him think that hard?!

"...Yes." Braig said, "Yes, I am." Sexual chemistry -> chemistry -> science. Not a lie. Exactly.

"What about?" Dilan asked, curiously.

"Not ready to talk about it, dude. Later?"

"Later."

"Not at the dinner table," Aya chuckled softly and tapped Braig's knuckles. She wasn't one of the adults but she knew the rules! "I forgive you though! I like when you guys have ideas...just don't tell Elcy I said that."

"I know, Aya." Braig said, dragging a smile out for her. It was...actually pretty easy. She made him want to smile. Both of them made him want to smile. In the long run, their happiness was more important than his jealousy. "Thanks."

"You're easy to forgive," Aya smiled and held out a forkful of chicken pie for him as well. He had to catch up with the eating! "You're welcome!" And besides, what would they do if she didn't forgive him?

What Elcy didn't know wouldn't hurt them! "If the idea you had works can you tell me about it too?" Because, yes, she wasn't a scientist like Dilan but she liked to hear what they were trying out or refining!

He took the bite, then went back to his own food. "Yeah, babe. If I figure it out, you'll be first to know. Promise."

"What about me?!" Dilan asked, wounded.

"Dude, you usually get to know things first. Aya's turn."

"That'll be nice!" Aya grinned and returned to her food once her fork was free. And it was nice after all, Dilan did get all the firsthand knowledge when things were going on!

"And I'll tell you as soon as he tells me!" Aya told Dilan. "And then you'll bug him for the science details I didn't remember."

"Yeah, okay. That makes sense." Dilan said after a moment of thought. Braig gave him a smile, then bent back to eating.

"We try to make sense!" Aya laughed. Really, it was an in joke to her because the boys didn't when they went into science mode...or she went into sugar mode. Yeah. "Do you know when we have to go to a party to thank everyone for the marathon donations?"

"No. Mom didn't tell me that." Dilan said, sighing, "Okay, when is it?"

"Not tonight, obviously. Right?"

"How would I know?!" Aya blinked at them. "I was asking you!" Hopefully not tonight...right?

"Did Elcy know you were taking us to dinner after swimming?"

"Oh, Elements." Braig dug his phone out and called his mother.

Dilan tilted his head to lean in.

"Okay, guys. We finish eating, we go straight home, we change, and we get our asses over to the community centre. We can make it without being late, but eat fast."

WHY WOULD IT BE TONIGHT?! WHYYYYYY?!

"Meeeeeeeep!" EATING NOW YES! "I don't know if I have a dress clean for that! Dress up? dress down? Dress middd...gack!" Don't talk while eating!

"Dress up." Braig said, shovelling food. Dilan, at least, was ahead of the others because he had a bigger mouth...so he signalled for the check and paid it...that way they could just go when they were done.

She finished off her pie, washed it down with a very large glass of milk, and wiped her mouth with a napkin before letting loose a string of serial killers. "Need a dress! Gotta check my closet. Think...not black. Kimono?"

"Kimono." Dilan agreed. Braig finished up as well and headed for the door, Dilan on his heels (waving to the waitress as they left).

She trotted after them, stretching her legs to keep up, and even skipped a few steps to make her legs fall back into proper sync. "And now driving. Then showers and kimonos. Gah, we're salty and why didn't she tell us sooner?" Scrambling into the car, a little grumpy now yes.

"We're gonna be grounded."

"Because, uh. My phone was off." Braig said sheepishly.

He didn't speed on the way home, but he certainly kept to the speed-limit.

"Aya, you shower first. I can help Dilan scrub his back and we'll get out faster." Since all he has to do is not look at Dilan. Sigh.

[mitochondriaaya]

"And I left my phone at home because I didn't have pockets." Facepalm. So grounded. So very grounded.

"Okay, I'll be out fast, pull one of the kimonos from my closet for me?"

"Will do." Dilan promised.

At the house they boiled out of the car and Braig slapped his head, "Dilan! We can use mom and dad's shower. That'll shave a couple minutes off things."

"Good idea!" Dilan called back, "Gonna have to get your own kimono, monkey."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Right! I'll lay out your kimono boxes if you guys need to brush hair!" Maybe Braig would just braid his hair back? "Ten minutes tops!" Pounding down the hall, bouncing off walls when she didn't manage a straight line.

"I love you, Aya Brea." Braig called.

It took a little longer than ten minutes, and Dilan was still squishing water out of his dreads when he got to the bedroom. Braig's hair was braided back.

"Love you too!" A little after ten minutes Aya had her under robe on and a towel on her head, the boxes were on the bed (Spring color set) and she was debating if there was a true need for the several other robes before the kimono proper.

Elcy would know.

Blast.

"I can't run in full kimono and geta! We're gonna have to walk to the community center." Or really, after a marathon, trying to run in geta would make her snap an ankle. She just knew it.

"We're going to drive there." Braig said, "It'll shave half an hour off our time." He and Dilan started getting dressed in full kimono, with all the under garments.
